PATTI BAZEL GEIL, M.S., R.D., F.A.D.A., C.D.E.

Patti Geil is a registered dietitian, author and certified diabetes educator who enjoys translating the science of nutrition into the arDiabetes Association (ADA), Ms. Geil has provided diabetes education in a variety of settings from pediatrics to nutrition research for more than 25 years. As the owner of Geil Nutrition Communications, Ms. Geil makes presentations, writes nutrition articles and cookbooks, and does diabetes and food-related media work. She continues to see clients for diabetes education in a multi-physician practice in Lexington, KY, as part of the ADA-recognized Diabetes Care and Communications program.

An active member of the ADA, American Association of Diabetes Educators, and the Diabetes Care and Education Dietetic Practice Group of the American Dietetic Association, Ms. Geil is also a certified fellow of the American Dietetic Association. She serves as a member of the board of directors of the American Association of Diabetes Educators. She has been named Kentucky’s “Outstanding Dietitian of the Year” and was named the 2005 “Diabetes Educator of the Year” by the Diabetes Care and Education Practice Group of the American Dietetic Association.

Ms. Geil is the author of numerous professional and consumer articles and book chapters. She frequently makes educational presentations to meetings of local, state, national and international professional and community organizations, and actively works with the media as an advocate for good nutrition.

Ms. Geil has authored 10 books, including: Magic Beans (1996), The White House Cookbook (1996), The Carbohydrate Counting Cookbook (1998), Diabetes Meals on $7 a Day—or Less! (1999), 101 Nutrition Tips for People with Diabetes (1999), Diabetes Nutrition from A to Z (2001), Individualized Approaches to Diabetes Nutrition Therapy: Case Studies (2002), Diabetes Staff Inservice and Patient Education Manual (2002), Cooking Up Fun for Kids with Diabetes (2003), 101 Tips for a Healthy Pregnancy with Diabetes (2003) and 101 Tips for Raising Healthy Kids with Diabetes (2006).

Ms. Geil earned her B.S. in dietetics at Marshall University in Huntington, WV, and her M.S. in clinical nutrition at the University of Kentucky. She has also completed doctoral degree coursework in instructional design and media.
