Posted January 27, 2006

ACFN is happy to announce that Kevin W. Keane, senior vice president for communications at the American Beverage Association (ABA), has joined the ACFN Executive Board. As chief communications officer for the association, Keane directs ABA’s strategic communications program, working with member companies and allied organizations.

“We are so pleased that Kevin has joined our Executive Board. His experience and expertise in the field of nutrition will be greatly valued. We look forward to his input and suggestions as we move forward,” said ACFN Chair Susan Finn, Ph.D., R.D., L.D., F.A.D.A.

Before joining ABA, Keane served as assistant secretary of public affairs for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) for four years, where he worked with major health and media organizations across the country. Keane was a senior advisor to Secretary Tommy Thompson, managing all aspects of the department’s communications, from Medicare funding and bio-terrorism preparedness to multimillion dollar advertising and public service campaigns.

Before his service at HHS, Keane served as deputy chief of staff for then Wisconsin Governor Thompson, where he managed communications, appointments, constituent relations and the Wisconsin State Office in Washington, D.C. He has also served as Washington bureau correspondent for Thomson Newspapers, a chain of more than 100 newspapers, where he covered the federal government. Keane was also a reporter for two Wisconsin daily newspapers, the Waukesha Freeman and Fond du Lac Reporter.

Keane received his B.A. from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, where he was named outstanding journalism graduate. He was also awarded a Paul Miller Fellowship by Freedom Forum for his work as a reporter in Washington.
