ACFN Participates in National PE Day
Posted March 20, 2006

In support of PE4life’s efforts to emphasize the importance of quality physical education for America’s youth, ACFN will be participating in PE4life’s 6th Annual National PE Day held on Capitol Hill May 2 and 3, 2006.

PE4life and the Sporting Goods Manufacturers Association (SGMA) will hold several events in honor of this day. On May 2, PE4life will host their Annual Awards Gala and Benefit Dinner to bring together champion celebrity athletes, physical education advocates and leaders from the corporate, health care, government and education sectors to celebrate achievements and honor the accomplishments of individuals and organizations committed to physical education and healthy lifestyles for children.

On May 3 PE4Life and SGMA will head to Capitol Hill for a full day of meetings with members of Congress to encourage them to support physical education. Since its inception, this annual advocacy effort has been successful in helping secure more than $300 million for the Carol M. White Physical Education for Progress (PEP) grant program.

In preparation for these events, PE4life is calling for student nominations for the 2006 “My Favorite PE Teacher” award. Students across the country submit essays describing how their physical education teachers make a difference in their lives. The student who submits the winning entry will win a trip for three to Washington, D.C., on May 2 - 3, 2006, to attend the PE4life Annual Awards Gala and Benefit Dinner. For complete information and to download an entry form, visit www.pe4life.org/nped/teacheraward.php. All nominations must be received by PE4life by March 31, 2006, to be considered.

ACFN supports PE4life’s efforts to inspire active, healthy living by advancing the development of quality, daily physical education programs for all children.
