ACFN Contributes to Diabetes Prevention Health Fair
On Feb.18, the Community Health Partners Regional Medical Center hosted the Project Temple Youth Nutrition and Physical Activity Health Fair in Lorain, OH. This event was part of the diabetes prevention initiative launched in 2005 in coordination with the Parrish Nursing Program. The health fair brought together six churches, including two Latino and four African- American congregations, with more than 125 participants. The event featured youth interactive learning experiences, aerobic presentations and a youth drama presentation on nutrition. To encourage interaction among the different churches, participants were assigned to interactive discussion groups where they were asked to prepare cultural-specific nutritious snacks representing MyPyramid food group. This activity helped motivate participants to achieve goals that will improve their health and nutritional well-being and reduce health risks associated with diabetes. Exhibits sponsored by various organizations, companies and health organizations were available. ACFN contributed background information on ACFN’s mission, a nutrition guide entitled “Charting a Healthy Course, “ACFN branded canvas bags and other information for participants. ACFN will be participating in an event hosted by the Community Health Partners Regional Medical Center in April to celebrate Minority Health Month for the state of Ohio. ACFN Chair Susan Finn, PhD., R.D., L.D., F.A.D.A., will be a highlighted speaker. Click here for more information on MyPyramid. |
