Joins Review Board for ACFN's At-Risk Initiative ACFN has enlisted several of its member companies to sit on a review board and contribute their insight to the development of a new resource for African-American and Hispanic community leaders. Through the 2005 TRIUMPH series, ACFN learned the importance of cultural relevance in health and wellness programs targeting African-American and Hispanic communities, populations that data suggest are most at-risk of obesity. ACFN is currently developing two separate authoritative guidebooks to show African-American and Hispanic community leaders and organizations how to build and expand programs designed to help families adopt and maintain healthier lifestyles. ACFN Advisory Board member Cecilia Pozo Fileti, M.S., R.D., F.A.D.A., C.P. Fileti Associates, Inc is the project leader of the Hispanic guidebook. Along with ACFN, Cecilia is working with Latinos and Hispanics in Dietetics and Nutrition (LAHIDAN), a working group of the American Dietetic Association (ADA), to develop this guidebook. “It is important to involve as many experts in the field as possible in order to receive a variety of perspectives and insight. We have a great group of individuals on the review board and we look forward to their feedback,” she said. Roniece Weaver, R.D., executive director of Hebni Nutrition Consultants, Inc and member of ADA’s National Organization of Blacks in Dietetics and Nutrition (NOBIDAN), is the project leader of the African-American guidebook. “Connecting with the community is a valuable part in the development of these guidebooks. Including the ideas and input of expert leaders from food and beverage companies will allow us to broaden our scope and offer a greater opportunity to meet community needs,” she said. ACFN is proud to announce that the following companies will participate on the review board of its At-Risk Initiative, helping to develop these useful and culturally relevant guides for both the African-American and Hispanic communities: The American Beverage Association, Cadbury Schweppes, PLC, Campbell Soup Company, The Coca-Cola Company, ConAgra Foods, Inc., General Mills, Inc., Gerber Products Company, The Hershey Company, The J.M. Smucker Company, Kellogg Company, Kraft Foods Inc., PepsiCo, Inc. and Sara Lee Corporation. To learn more about ACFN’s TRIUMPH events, click here.
