ACFN
Advisory Board Member to Participate in MANA Conference
MANA, A National Latina Organization, will be holding their annual meeting and Latina Leadership Forum May 25-27, 2006, in Chicago, Ill. ACFN Advisory Board member Cecilia Pozo Fileti, M.S., R.D., F.A.D.A., will be attending the conference to address participants on ACFN’s initiatives and conduct a workshop entitled "Building a Healthy Lifestyle," scheduled for Friday, May 26. Fileti will inform participants about ACFN’s at-risk initiative for 2006 and discuss some of the many lessons learned through ACFN’s TRIUMPH series of events in 2005. “Latinas will come together to explore healthy active living through a mind, body, soul workshop at the annual MANA conference. Bridging ACFN principles into daily routines will invigorate our Latina community leaders to spark small changes towards improving the quality of life for our families one person at a time,” says Fileti. Conference participants will hear from keynote speakers Cari Dominguez, chair of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and Maria Marin, author and TV star. The conference will begin with a welcome reception Thursday night themed “Honoring Latina Public Officials,” followed by workshops Friday and Saturday focused on a wide array of topics, including “Building a Healthy Lifestyle,” “Developing Personal Financial Sustainability,” “Leading from a Position of Power,” “Running for Office,” “Becoming Consumer Advocates,” “Serving on Boards of Directors” and others. MANA, a National Latina Organization, was founded in 1974 as the Mexican-American Women's National Association. MANA's original intent was to provide a voice for Mexican-American women at the national, state and local levels. Since then, the organization has expanded into a diverse group of Latinas in all areas of political, social and professional fields. MANA is the single largest pan-Latina organization in the United States. To learn more about MANA and the annual conference, click here. To view Cecilia Pozo Fileti’s bio, click here. |
