ACFN Participates in Free Public Festival Brought to Baltimore, MD
Posted August 18, 2006

ACFN was one of several sponsors at the annual Stone Soul Picnic, an African-American festival, on Saturday, August 19 in Baltimore, MD.

ACFN had a booth to tout its newly developed blueprint titled, Healthy Families, Healthy Communities Blueprint for Action: Community Connect to be released later this summer as well as a portion size demonstration. This blueprint, which was written by members of the National Association for Blacks in Dietetics and Nutrition (NOBIDAN), will help community leaders to build, expand and promote programs designed to help families adopt and maintain healthier lifestyles.

ACFN Advisory Board member Lisa Katic, R.D. led a portion size demonstration to help individuals understand what a portion size truly is. Wallet sized pocket cards were distributed with examples that compare food portions to household objects. “I have participated in several of ACFN’s events and the portion size demonstration is always a hit. It is a great way to make people more aware of how much they are eating and providing them with simple ways to measure the appropriate amounts of food to consume no matter where they are eating, “said Katic. ACFN also exhibited health and wellness materials at the booth for event participants.
