ACFN Participates in ADA Food and Nutrition Conference and Expo
Posted September 25, 2006

The American Council for Fitness and Nutrition (ACFN) participated in the American Dietetic Association Food and Nutrition Conference (FNCE) and Expo Sept. 16 to 19, to showcase its “Blueprints for Action” in front of an audience of several thousand dietetic professionals in the health and wellness arenas. Healthy Families, Healthy Communities, A Blueprint for Action; Mi Pueblo…Mi Familia and Community Connect were spotlighted at various events, including the FNCE Opening Session, the House of Delegates Reception, the National Organization of Blacks in Dietetics and Nutrition (NOBIDAN) Awards Ceremony and the Puerto Rican Delegation Members Meeting.

The two documents, developed in partnership with the American Dietetic Association Foundation and leaders of their African-American and Latino practice groups, outline ways to reach minority communities in order to help people make healthier choices in both nutrition and physical activity. The blueprints provide guidance on how one can become an agent of change within the African American and Hispanic communities.

“Having the ear of the talented people who attend FNCE is invaluable, and I was excited to share with them the work we have done on these blueprints,” said ACFN Chair Susan Finn, PH.D., R.D., L.D., F.A.D.A. “I know these two documents will serve as fantastic resources for community members interested in health and wellness, and there’s no better place to kick off the dissemination than with influential members of ADA.”

FNCE 2007 will take place in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania from Sept. 27-Oct. 2. For more information about FNCE, visit http://www.eatright.org/cps/rde/xchg/ada/hs.xsl/events.html.
