HEALTHIERUS FITNESS FAIR DEMONSTRATES BENEFITS OF PHYSICAL ACTIVITY

Washington, D.C., June 16, 2004 - Dr. Susan Finn, chair of the American Council for Fitness and Nutrition, made the following statement regarding participation in the HealthierUS Fitness Fair:

“ACFN is proud to join with the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, the Congressional Fitness Caucus and all of the other groups represented at the Healthier US Fitness Fair aimed at raising awareness about the importance of physical activity.

As we witnessed today, increased physical activity can be fun, achievable and empowering. But perhaps the most significant thing about physical activity is the role it plays along with balanced nutrition in combating the overweight and obesity epidemic currently threatening America.

The benefits of physical activity are clear – strong bones and heart, a reduced risk of disease, increased energy and weight control. As school lets out and the warm summer weather is upon us, now is a great time to incorporate physical activity into daily life. If every American can make that commitment, our nation’s health and wellness will improve dramatically.”
