Behind the Headlines

As reported in the April 20 issue of The USA Today, a group of 130 retired military leaders known as Mission: Readiness, Military Leaders for Kids is calling on Congress to address a serious threat to national security – the same threat that faced the United States in 1940: young adults physically unfit to serve in the armed forces.

Jimmie Bullard has 15 years experience in the education arena teaching and serving as a site administrator. She talks about how the Healthy Schools Partnership is helping reduce obesity in students, parents and teachers.  

What changes have you seen around the school and with students since the implementation of the program?

Kids are making healthier choices in the lunch room.  Originally the cafeteria didn’t offer many fruits or vegetables because kids wouldn’t eat them.
